Until we can get lobbyists and corporate money out of politics, there's no way anything will ever change.

How will we accomplish that? We need a third party, I agree, but what's to prevent it from being merely a clone of the two we already have?
AlaskaDavehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05668192878826278876noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5201435318002776924.post-60568585026906460242012-12-27T14:05:41.935-09:002012-12-27T14:05:41.935-09:00I think our electoral system itself is just design...I think our electoral system itself is just designed to fail. It's not that Obama isn't trying -- it's just that he can only get so far and push so hard -- we have a carefully orchestrated election process -- basically people are polled to the extent where it is almost certain which candidate is going to win and which isn't. In this last election, Conservatives and Fox News watchers thought for sure Romney was going to win. On the other side, MSNBC's careful analysis had Obama as the winner more or less. It's not that MSNBC isn't right, or that they aren't telling the truth, it's that they don't have the balls to go far enough and tell people what the REAL issues are. Fox news and MSNBC are both like glorified political gossip. There's structure, but it's taboo to go further than just calling people out more or less. One side rants hard against the other side and we're left with a stalemate. The only way to change it is to push for proportional representation, a third party, or to take money out of elections. That will never happen as long as our government is run by lobbbysists and beholden to $$$$. The people's opinion doesn't matter at all -- it's crafted by the media. I needed and wanted a structural analysis.. Richard Wolff is my antidote to Krugman, even Stiglitz.. he's got a great blog where he does weekly economic updates. Our politics are fundamentally broken and can't be fixed -- the only solution is to spread awareness and get people to stop voting altogether and support 3rd party candidates only.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5201435318002776924.post-82957913522123465122012-11-19T15:53:14.946-09:002012-11-19T15:53:14.946-09:00Sorry, I thought it was already up there -- it is ...Sorry, I thought it was already up there -- it is now.

Read about your trip and the silver jubilee - they are the best fighters of any fish I've ever hooked. I had a happy childhood and grew up in times of minimal domestic strife. Dad died in 1976 so didn't live to see the changes that closed the place he worked for 30 years folded up shop and move overseas.

I credit Obama for having values much more similar to mine than Mitt's. But when you ask yourself what must a politician do to win the White House, the answers must apply to Barack as well. Campaign financing reform is critical to any future good feelings I might have about the American political scene.

But how will we ever stop the always growing militarization of our economy? Sadly, I whole heartedly have to agree with your blog.
For at least several decades, I have said, "I was born in the BEST of times!" Even my children were raised in a house where the doors were seldom locked, & people were brought up to respect others and their property. There wasn't this sense of entitlement and an I, I, Me, Me attitude that some people have today. You're right, Romney can't wrap his brain around what someone struggling to feed, house & provide for a family, while only making minimum wage, has to deal with. If they are a single parent, as soon as they can do without paying a babysitter, their children are on their own. No one there to enforce rules, & a parents that is usually too exhausted at the end of the day, to care. I agree with Oscar Sanchez that we should direct our attention on Education, Housing, the Environment, & Health services for "We The People." But... we must never give up. We must keep fighting for what we believe will make a better country. I am leaving the country regardless of who wins the election, not because I denounce the U.S., but because I can't afford to live here. Our economy has made it so difficult to retire in my own country, I have chosen to leave it.My View From Mainehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05605813715694791327noreply@blogger.com
